The beaches of Santorini all have their own special character but, due to the volcanic nature of Santorini, you will not find golden sandy beaches but beaches of grey and black sand. Vlichada, a nudist beach, has some magnificent natural stone sculptures, There are the black sandy beaches of Kamari and Perissa. with their beach bars and roving masseurs, Perivolos is a beach with black pebbles. Red Beach is so named because the sand here has been ground down from the iron rich sedimentary rocks of the cliffs towering above. From Red Beach you can take a short boat ride to the tiny bay called White Beach. You can easily find a beach to suit your mood, whether it is a well organized beach with plenty of places for eating and drinking, water sports and sun beds or a quiet secluded beach where, if you desire, you can strip off and swim au naturale.
Santorini has many good beaches for all tastes and needs. From popular and cosmopolitan up to isolated ones in areas of natural beauty. We recommend you to explore and discover as much as you can, to enjoy them and draw your own conclusions.
Although Santorini has not the classic Cycladic beaches with golden sand, the shores have their individual color and options for each style. Perivolos is the most popular beach, with beach bars, good fish restaurants and nice black shiny pebbles. The former alternative Vlihada with the white rocks that create strange formations is the fastest growing beach. At the tourist beach of Kamari, you will find hotels, restaurants and many bars. Perissa, with fine sand, beach sports and youthful atmosphere. A few kilometers further, Monolithos, with fine sand and shallow waters, remains a low-key family beach . The most northerly and windswept Columbos near Oia, with fine pebbles and a large rock provide natural shade is the best choice for most alternative situations. The neighboring, Pori, Baxedes and Katharos are some of the options out of the ordinary. At Akrotiri, except the photographed Red and White beach which mainly is prefered by the foreign visitors, there are some off the road options for those seeking tranquility towards the north side.
Agia Paraskevi beach is near the airport and Monolithos. This is a fairly quiet beach on the east coast, with clean deep waters. You can find some umbrellas and sunbeds from neighboring restaurants. Access and parking is easy.
Athermi beach located near Megalohori, you can get there on foot by descending a relatively easy path or by boat. The beach is lovely, overlooking the volcano and Thirassia while impressive is the mountain, the caldera, which is covered by layers of volcanic material. A few meters above the beach there is a beautiful church which you can visit. The beach is relatively large in length and wide enough, while mostly deserted. Should you decide to get off the path, be sure to avoid to return during the hot hours of the day.

The beach of Columbo is one of the most isolated, and therefore less crowded beaches of Santorini, located on the northeast coast of the island.

The beach of Vlychada is located on the southern tip of the island of Santorini, 14 kilometers from Fira.
